Taiye Omokore: Strengthening My Practice with Creative Steps Support

I am thrilled to share that I have once again been awarded funding from the Arts Council of Wales through the Creative Steps programme, supported by the Welsh Government.

This new phase of support will allow me to consolidate and professionalize my practice as a photographer and visual storyteller. Building on the foundation of my first award, which helped me build alot of industry connections and expand my curatorial skills, this funding will focus on mentorship, advanced training, and strengthening my professional networks.

Over the past & next few months, I will be working closely with esteemed mentors — Glenn Edwards, Phoebe Davies, and Michal Iwanowski — who will each guide me in different areas of development, from strategic career planning and international commissions to filmmaking, narrative-driven projects, and curatorial approaches.

This award also enables me to expand into video storytelling, enhance my digital presence with a stronger online archive of my work, and engage with new industry opportunities nationally and internationally.

Beyond personal growth, this support represents an investment in amplifying underrepresented voices and bringing greater visibility to Black artists and cultural narratives across Wales and beyond.

I am deeply grateful to the Arts Council of Wales for their continued belief in my practice and to the Creative Steps programme for breaking barriers and opening new doors for artists like me.
